Phyllis D. Warner Forest Grove, Oregon Obituary

Phyllis D. Warner

Phyllis Dean Warner, 83, a resident of the Forest Grove community, died Wednesday morning, December 11, 2019 at her home in Forest Grove. Private Cremation Rites were held at the Hoyt Crematory in Forest Grove. Phyllis was born August 11, 1936 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Alfred Joseph “Fred” Bamberg and Jennie Pearl (Wakeman) Bamberg. She was raised in the community of Kingfisher, Oklahoma and was a graduate of the Big Four High School Class of 1954. Phyllis was affectionately known as “Deanie” by many of her friends and family growing up. After high school, Phyllis followed her dream to help people and moved to Oklahoma City to attend Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated in 1957 and earned her Registered Nurse certification. While attending nursing school, Phyllis met her beloved partner in life, Edgar “Joe” Warner. At that time, he was an Officer in the Army in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. They met on a blind date that was set up by mutual friends. They quickly fell in love and after she graduated from nursing school, Phyllis took a train to Toppenish, Washington to marry Joe on November 2, 1957. They shared an active life together for over 60 years. Phyllis and Joe spent most of their years living in Oregon in the communities of Warm Springs, Madras, Gladstone, Sisters, Brookings, Florence and Forest Grove. They also lived for short periods in communities of Washington, Arizona and Colorado. Phyllis was a homemaker for most of her life together with Joe. She loved spending her time raising her children, cooking and baking, and taking care of their home while Joe worked and traveled. After Joe’s retirement from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Phyllis and Joe opened a Leather and Gift Shop in Estes Park, Colorado. Joe taught leather artistry classes while Phyllis ran the shop welcoming and helping customers who visited their shop from around the world. They moved back to Oregon after “retiring” from the Gift Shop and resided in Sisters, Oregon for several years. While there, Phyllis worked part time in an upscale kitchen store. She loved the people she worked with and especially enjoyed sharing her love of cooking with the many customers who visited the store. Phyllis was always happiest when she could be outside camping and fishing with Joe at her side. She especially loved it when she would catch more fish than those family members with her. Camp Sherman on the Metolius River in Central Oregon was her and Joe’s favorite place to be, and she would hike up and down the river enjoying the beauty and peacefulness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Warner, her parents, Fred and Jennie Bamberg, her brother, Alfred Joseph (Joe) Bamberg, and by her daughter, Beverly Warner Sesay. Survivors include her children, Sherrie Warner, Carol (Warner) Dissen and her husband Gregory Dissen, and David Warner. Also surviving are her four grandchildren, Elisabeth (Dissen) Dash and her husband Steven Dash, Julia Dissen, Hannah Warner, and Muzae Sesay, her brother William (Bill) Bamberg, and cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family will have a private celebration of life. To sign the online guest book or to send a condolence to the family, go to www.fuitenrosehoyt.com.
