Gregory Mark Wampler, 61 years of age, of Raven, VA, formerly of the Davenport section of Buchanan County, passed away Monday, December 9 at his home. Born September 13, 1958, Mark was the son of Fayrene Wampler and the late J.B. Wampler. He was of the Christian faith. Mark was an avid racing and baseball enthusiast and lifelong fan of the Baltimore Orioles. He took great joy in following NASCAR for more than four decades and managing the Richmond Rebels fantasy baseball club for the last 15 years. He was a southern patriot who loved his country, his freedoms, his family and his Savior. Mark was retired from the Coca Cola Bottling Co., having worked as a salesman for the Vansant plant for 16 years. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jamie Scott. Those left to cherish his memory include one son, Scotty (JoBeth) Wampler, of Davenport; mother, Fayrene Wampler, of Lebanon; brother, John (Chandra) Wampler, of Haysi; brother, Mike (Hazel) Scott, of Damascus; granddaughter, Kathryn Wampler, of Davenport; grandson, Joshua Wampler, of Davenport; special companion, Rosemary Harrison, of Flowery Branch, GA; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held for Mark on Friday, December 13 at 7 p.m. at Hurricane Baptist Church, located at Davenport, with Rev. Carl Burmeier officiating. Honaker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
