Carolyn “Kay” J. Lynds, 72, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at a Portland hospital. She was born July 17, 1947, in Houlton, the daughter of Peter and Grace (Strong) Smith.
Carolyn grew up in Houlton and attended local schools. She married Merlin “Wimpy” Lynds and they moved to Bangor where she worked at local nursing homes. Carolyn was a natural caregiver and upon moving back to Monticello she babysat Jennie and Alan Smith who were her niece and nephew. Carolyn's faith was very important to her and was a member of the Lake Road Baptist Church.
She is survived by four sisters: Shirley Smith of Weston, Grace Yvonne Hafford of Hodgdon, Pearl Smith of Linneus, Linda Polchies of Princeton, a brother Gary Smith of Houlton, two sisters-in-law: Ella Smith of Oakfield, Joyce Smith of Littleton, three brothers-in-law; Louis Polchies Jr. of Princeton, Tommy Conners of Monticello, Leland Ralston of Debec, NB, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband “Wimpy”, a sister Gloria Burpee Conners, two brothers: Carl Smith, and Kenneth Smith, a brother-in-law Tommy Hafford, two nephews Tommy Smith and Kyle Ralston, Linda and Junior's twin daughters, and a great niece C.J. Smith
Friends may call 12 Noon Friday, December 13, 2019 at the Lake Road Baptist Church in Monticello, where a service will be held at 1 PM with Rev. Carl DeMerchant and Pastor Phil Smith officiating.
