Greta Ruth Green Obituary

Greta was born on March 8, 1920 in Jenks, OK to Oscar Turner Scillian and Lela May Lawrence. She attended local schools in the area and was always interested in education. She graduated from high school at the age of 16, and then went to junior college where she continued her path to becoming a school teacher and school librarian. Not only did her education prepare her for her career, her Bachelor’s degree in Education and Master’s degrees in English and Biology from The University of Oklahoma made her a #1 OU fan. Greta married Marvin “Red” Green, an Air Force pilot, on May 28, 1943 at the Travis Park Methodist Church in San Antonio, Texas. Her favorite song was, “San Antonio Rose.” While her husband was in the Air Force, they lived in Texas, Louisiana, Florida and Alabama. They moved back to Norman, OK and eventually to Medford, OK, where they raised their children, Carolyn, Catherine and Lawrence. Greta was active in the Medford community, mother’s groups and the Medford Methodist Church. In the 1970s, they moved to Aurora, Colorado and she continued her teaching and librarian career. She enjoyed being a school librarian as well as teaching French. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling. She traveled around the United States, to Europe, Canada and other parts of the world. Greta moved to Sand Springs, OK in 1989. She volunteered in the school system teaching French. She was active in the Sand Springs United Methodist Church, her Women’s Circle and Knitting and Crocheting group and participated in many other special interest groups. She enjoyed living at Green Tree Assisted Living this past year and a half and appreciated the support of the staff. She loved all the concerts and special events and was an enthusiastic member of their winning basketball team. Greta is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Green, her parents, Oscar and Lela Scillian, her four siblings; Glenn Scillian, Dorothy Bloxsom, Lou Schroeder and Billie Miller. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Harold Schroeder of Wisconsin, children, Carolyn Greene, of Sand Springs, Catherine Hula and husband Robert, of Sapulpa, and Lawrence Green of Lamont. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Erik Johnson and wife Christa of Ronkonkoma, NY, James Hula, of Sapulpa, Jennifer Feather and husband Robbie, of Sand Springs and by her great- grandchildren; Jeanmarie, Joanna, Ethan and wife Sarah, Julianna and Jessica Johnson, Raegan Hula, Nathan and Jacey Feather. She took great joy in being a part of her great-grandchildren’s lives. Many loving nieces and nephews, extended family and friends also survive her.
