Shirley J VanderHorst

Shirley J. VanderHorst. age 91, of Toledo's Point Place Community passed away Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Wellsprings Lutheran Services in Monroe, MI. A homemaker, she was the loving mother of seven children. Shirley volunteered for many years as the librarian at Edgewater School. She was a member of the VFW Post 606 Ladies Auxiliary and Point Place Heritage Society. Shirley will be remembered as a wonderful bread baker. When her children were young she would bake 15 loaves a week. She is survived by her children, Linda Achinger, Joyce (Gary) Schuett, Joseph (Audrey) VanderHorst, Mark (Judy) VanderHorst, and Thomas (Sharon) VanderHorst; sister, Marion Pilatowski; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald VanderHorst; sons, Donald VanderHorst and Robert VanderHorst; and sister, Barbara VanderHorst. Family and friends may visit Tuesday, December 10, 2019 from 4-7 p.m. David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St. Toledo, Ohio, with a scripture service at 6:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass for Shirley will be Wednesday, December 11 at 11 am in St. John the Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
