James V. Hough "Mr. Hough Obituary

James V. Hough “Mr. Hough”, 85, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Autumn Woods Health Campus in New Albany, Indiana. He was born on August 21, 1934 in Watsika, Illinois, the son of the late Willard “Hap” Hough and Margaret (Burdge) Hough. Jim graduated from Scottsburg High School in 1952 and attended Hanover College before leaving to serve in the U.S. Army as a SP3 (T) during the Korean War for two years. After being discharged, he went back to Hanover College and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1958. Jim then attended Indiana University in Bloomington earning his Master’s Degree. He started his career as a Math Teacher at the elementary school level, then was a Math Teacher at Scottsburg Junior High School for many years. Jim became the Principal at Johnson Elementary School for 11 years and Scottsburg Junior High School for 14 years before retiring. He was a member of the Scottsburg Presbyterian Church and a former member and Past President of the Scottsburg Kiwanis Club. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Renee’ Marlene (Spall) Hough on Jan. 12, 1987 and a great granddaughter, Jazlyn Pearcy. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Mary Sue (Newby) Hough; two sons, Richard “Dick” Hough (Martha) of Scottsburg, Indiana and Bart A. Hough (Jill) of Austin, Indiana; his daughter, Renee’ Wachtel (Thom) of Louisville, Kentucky; a stepdaughter, Jennifer McClintock of Mitchell, Indiana; a stepson, Jerry H.C. McClintock of Mitchell, Indiana; his sister, Betty Jean Goodman of Cincinnati, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Brandon Hough (Kelsey), Lene Benoit (Will), Adam Hough (Laura), Becca Hough (Bryan Fischer), Maci Wachtel, Elizabeth Jones (Eric), Matthew Pearcy (Tara), Brian Pearcy (Jennifer), Brittney McClintock and Shelby Donohue and twelve great grandchildren.
