Ruth Irene Hermann, 96, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna. She was born July 27, 1923 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Harry and Bessie (McLlhaney) Confer. She grew up in Allentown where she graduated from high school. She met the love of her life, Ronald Hermann, at a dance and the couple was married on November 25, 1944. Following her husband’s discharge from the military, the couple moved to the Hermann family farm in Madrid, Iowa until 1950. Ronald’s career in the natural gas industry resulted in many moves. They lived in Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota settling in Bemidji in 1972. Ruth was a dedicated homemaker raising her three children. She had a dry sense of humor and non-judgmental personality allowing her to make friends easily. She loved baking and especially loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Traveling was one of the things she and Ronald enjoyed. They traveled to many countries over the years and wintered in Gulf Shores, Alabama. She is survived by children, Joel (Margot) Hermann of Friedeburg, Germany and Julie (Grady) Strand of Owatonna; grandchildren, Lukas (Sarah) Hermann, Katie (Chris) Bergman, Jesse Strand, Krista (Cole) Orlowski and Pascal Hermann; great-grandchildren, Lucy and Lily Hermann, Olive and Eddy Bergman, Jackson and Kira Holder and Emilee Ruth Strand and special friends, Ron, Melanie, Henry and Anna Hilgendorf and Ron’s mom, Jan; Jane Morley and her daughters, and Jack and Gloria Hostak. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Bessie; husband, Ronald Hermann; son and daughter-in-law, David and Nancee Hermann and siblings, Catherine, Gladys and Harry. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Sunday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM . Funeral services will be held December 9, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with The Reverend Amanda Floy officiating. Interment will be 11:00 AM Tuesday in Greenwood Cemetery in Bemidji. Memorials are preferred to Homestead Hospice House Patient Care Fund.
