Hugh Fraser MacLeod, age 76, Durham, died suddenly at home on December 2, 2019, working in his yard, doing things his way, just as he would have it. The son of the late Mary and Edgar MacLeod, Hugh was born and raised on the Willow Dale Dairy Farm in Heathbell and attended the Heathbell School. Learning and working alongside George Heron, he mastered his craft. He then worked for many years at Trenton Car Works, and Glasgow Metals with whom he traveled all over the Maritimes; highly sought after for his ability to make the most perfect weld in the most difficult of situations. Later in life, he could be found at the auto auctions quietly scoping out the next deal, for friends and neighbours. As an ambitious genius with the welding torch, Hughie was always willing to help out a neighbour, friend, or even a stranger in need. He could often be found working in his garage on a project for others long after his declared retirement. Known for his quiet, quick wit, kindness and generosity of his time and talents, he will be missed by all who knew him. Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Janice (McCully); devoted son Milton Hugh; step-grand daughter Kathleen MacDonald; sisters, Thelma Forbes (Jimmie), Hamilton, Ont. and MaryBelle MacLean (Donnie), Rockfield. He is also survived by sisters in law Helena Castle, Kay Hoare; brothers-in-law Michael McCully and Kenny McCully; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters in law Patricia Marcott and Leanne Lyons; brothers in law Adam McCully and Jerry Castle and step grandson Cameron MacDonald. A Celebration of Life was held at the Scotsburn Fire Hall on Saturday, December 7. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
