Ted Maple Obituary

Ted Maple passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, December 7, 2019, at the age of 96. Ted was born in Waldron, Indiana, in 1923, where he developed his love of music in the Waldron High School band. After serving in the Navy during WWII, he went on to work as a safety engineer for 21 years. He married the love of his life, Patricia June Thacker, in 1949 and was a loving, kind husband and father to their children, Regina and Matt. As he grew older, Ted’s reputation as a master pianist brought neighbors to sit outside of his home in Shelbyville to listen to him play the baby grand piano that filled his family’s living room. Ted loved the piano and especially loved playing during what was known as “Teddy Time”, when the family children would gather underneath the piano, feeling the vibrations of the music while Ted sang them songs he made up for them. Ted loved the Lord and was always a faithful servant. He and his family attended Life Tabernacle for several years. He and Pat were more recently attending Stones Crossing Church in Greenwood. Through the years, the two of them shared their passion for music and Jesus through a traveling musical ministry dedicated to developing that same love of music and Jesus in teenagers. For 40 years, Ted and Pat also performed in plays together through the Christian Theological Seminary. In their later years, they were given an opportunity to record and perform their gospel music. Ted will always be remembered for his love of people! He never knew a stranger and never missed an opportunity to smile. His family enjoyed his practical jokes along with his joyous love for everyone! He delighted in the simple pleasures of life, spending time with his family and friends and sharing his love of Jesus. Most of all, Ted cherished the 70 years he spent with his beautiful wife Pat in the life they created together. Ted is survived by his wife Patricia, daughter Regina Maple-Carley (Rob), son Matt, and grandson Taylor Carley. He is also survived by his nieces Shirley Halterman (Dave) and Sandee Keller and nephew James Hantzis, Jr., as well as several sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, and other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Glenna Roberts and sister Helen (Maple) Hantzis. Please join us in celebrating Ted’s life on Saturday, December 7. Visitation will be held from 12:30 – 2:30 pm, immediately followed by a memorial service beginning at 2:30 pm, at G.H. Herrmann Funeral Home, 1605 South S.R. 135, Greenwood, IN 46143. Feel free to wear yellow in celebration of his favorite color. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Hospice Health Care.
