Leslie Carter Obituary

Leslie Reed Carter, went home to glory on Monday, December 2, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 20, 1928 in Sycamore, Pittsylvania County, Virginia, to the late William Henry and Mary Alice (Dickerson) Carter. In 1931, he, his parents, and siblings came to New Jersey to start a new life. Leslie, affectionately known as Les, was educated in the Atlantic City School System and attended dental school in New York. He resided and worked in New York for a short period of time before returning to Atlantic City to join the family business, Carter's Express Moving and Storage. Later, Les became the president of the successful family business, until he retired and closed the business. Les also served in the Army National Guard & was Drum Major for its Marching Band. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and served as a trustee for a few years. In 1989, Les married his companion of 20 years, his beloved, Susie. Together they raised his darling daughter, Leslie Renee. Les enjoyed bowling and most of all, golfing, going on trips with the Apex Golf Club and Egg Harbor Golf Association. He loved making Sunday breakfast, and made the best, fluffiest pancakes in the world. His daughter and granddaughters were his priority and nothing was too good for them. He had a heart of gold and would do anything he could, for anyone. Leslie is predeceased by his parents, Mary Alice and William Henry; siblings, Samuel and Richard Carter, Mae Cross, Lucille Coger, and Charles Carter. He leaves to cherish fond memories, his loving wife Susie; daughter, Leslie Richardson Carter; granddaughters, Michael Monei and Michaella La'Kenya Howard; sister-in-law, Merilyn Carter; and a host of family and beloved friends.
