Daniel Curnett Obituary

Daniel Wayne Curnett, 80, of Tucson, passed away on December 1, 2019. He was born on May 7, 1939 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO to Walter and Margaret (Calvert) Curnett. He attended Southeast High School in Kansas City, received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Arts Education from Central Missouri State University, and earned a double Master’s Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation and Administration from the University of Arizona. Education was very important to Dan. After college he taught High School Industrial Arts and History. In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s he worked in Vocational Rehabilitation in Casa Grande for the University of Arizona. In 1977 he moved to Steelville, MO where he served as the Middle School Principal. After obtaining his Chief Executive Officer certification from Goodwill Industries of America’s, Executive Training Program, he served as President and CEO of Goodwill Industries for 17 years in Arizona, Delaware, and California; retiring in 1999. Recognizing the importance of community service, he was a member of the Lions Club, Rotary Club, and served on various non-profit boards. Daniel married Connie Monge on June 5, 1986. He is survived by his loving spouse Connie; Children Tana (Brent) Booker of Cook Station, MO, Troy Curnett of San Diego, CA, Kristal (Andrew Muñoz) Curnett of Pleasant Grove, UT , and Kendra (Sean Seagle) Curnett of Tucson; Grandchildren Joshua (Hannah) Booker of Steelville, MO and Nathan (Megen) Booker of Sullivan, MO; Great-grandchildren, McKynlee Peterson, Trevor, and Khori Booker; Sister Karen Wilson of Mason City, IA; Brother-in-Law James Rowe of Alliance, NE, Mother-in-Law Mariana Monge of Tucson, AZ; Sister-in-Law Prisila Barcelo of Tucson, AZ; Brother-in-Law Jesus Monge of Tucson, AZ and Brother-in-Law Marco A. Monge of Virginia; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by Father, Walter Curnett, Mother, Margaret Curnett, Sister, Joyce Rowe, Brother-in-Law, Richard Wilson, and Father-in-Law, Jesus Monge. Collecting old cars, rebuilding small trailers, woodworking, and welding were some of his many hobbies. He had a compassionate, giving heart; often opening his home to family and friends. Former students, co-workers, and friends will remember his ability to push them to their fullest potential. He always saw the best in everyone. Loving and supporting his family, however, was his greatest asset. He was a caring husband, father, and grandfather. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2019 from 4 to 6 at the Adair Funeral Home, Avalon Chapel, 8090 Northern Ave., Oro Valley, AZ, with an informal service beginning at 5. In Lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given in his honor to Child and Family Resources in Tucson, AZ or The Steelville R-3 School District in Steelville, MO.
