Maxine Murray Parker Obituary

Maxine Leah Murray Parker “MiMi”, 88 years old, of Germantown, Tennessee went home to Jesus on November 22, 2019. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee on January 1, 1931 and was the youngest daughter of six children to John McLeod Murray and Juanita Brame Murray. Precious childhood memories with her siblings included being the child who could perform aerial black flips for the backyard circus acts and of the playhouse that was amazingly built realistically with electricity and a real working stove. A lifelong Memphian, she worked several jobs with Gerber's Department store first as the sales girl who had to sell gadgets next to the perfume counter, then moved to the gift wrapping department. Later, while working at the Memphis Housing Authority department, she meet the love of her life G.H. Parker, who was a Memphis Policeman. After they married, she graduated from Memphis State University with a degree in teaching. Continuing her education, she became a real estate affiliate broker. The Parkers co-owned a successful real estate development and construction company for many wonderful blessed years. Mrs. Parker was an accomplished artist in oil painting. She was passionate about gardening and cooking for her family everyday and for family gatherings. She was known as being a very caring person who gave glory to God for everything in life. She never complained about anything and was like a “solider” marching through however life presented being the strongest person for all around her. The most joyful part of her life, and the proudest, was being Grandmother or MiMi, and taking care of her family. She is survived by her only child, daughter, Jennifer (and Jorge “George”) and adored, loving granddaughter, Elaine, brother John McLeod Murray, sister-in-law Dorothy Parker and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be on December 3, 2019 at Union Avenue Baptist Church, 2181 Union Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee, 38104. Visitation at 11:30 and service to follow at 12:30. Interment will be at Memphis Memory Gardens on Raleigh Lagrange. High Point Funeral Home will be in charge and flowers can be sent to them Monday, December 2nd or in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Shriners Hospital, Union Avenue Baptist Church or Grace Evangelical Church.
