Brevard - Ann Azalea Russ Nickes, 71, died 20 November 2019 in Asheville, NC. She was preceded in death by her father, Dallas Simeon Russ, Sr. and one great granddaughter. Ann was born 9 December 1947 to Dallas and Marcella Pope Russ. She was a native of Georgetown, S.C. During her growing up years, Ann traveled extensively, living a full and adventurous life with her family; as her father's business was with a Worldwide Company. She attended Business College in Chicago, IL where she studied accounting. In 1972 she decided to make her permanent home in Brevard, NC. Ann was a published poet and artist, she had a healing sense of humor, she was a bold and courageous person. She was an animal lover, she loved to learn, read cook and enjoyed outdoor activities. She was a loyal mother, daughter sister & friend as well as a loving grandmother. Survivors include her mother, Marcella Russ of Hemingway, SC; two brothers, Dallas S. Russ Jr (Brenda) of Thief River Falls, MN and Dennis A. Russ (Tracy) of Georgetown, SC. One son, Jessie Nickes, Jr. of Brevard, one daughter, Yvette Jennings (Johnathon) of Panama City, FL. One Granddaughter, Danielle Nickes of Brevard, NC, one Grandson, Ryland Townsend of Panama City, FL. 5 great grandchildren, 4 nephews and 2 nieces as well as a large extended family in various parts of the Country. She was dearly loved by all of her family and her light in our lives will be deeply missed. A Celebration of Life for Ann will be announced in the near future for any and all wishing to attend.
