Floyd Mosley Obituary

Deacon Floyd Mosley was born on March 2, 1925 in Haughton, LA. He was the son of Mr. Henry Mosley and Mrs. Annie Jefferson Tasby. Deacon Mosley accepted Christ at a young age and joined Mayflower Baptist Church in Haughton, LA. He had a strong belief in God. He always said to put God first and take care of your family, which he did, often working several jobs. Deacon Mosley lived with his mother and grandparents in Louisiana, where his grandfather Jeff Jefferson was a sharecropper. Deacon Mosley had no formal education beyond the 3rd grade. At an early age (9) he knew he wanted more from life than sharecropping and worked various jobs until he was old enough to be drafted during WWII. He served in the Navy for two years serving his country in top secret Naval Assignments. He was honorably discharged on February 23, 1946. On June 1, 1946 he was united in holy matrimony to Carrie Bernice Wright in Haughton, LA. From that union 8 children were born of which 5 survived. They moved to Milwaukee, WI in 1948. Carrie worked in a laundry and once her family grew she became a full time homemaker. Deacon Mosley was hired as a general laborer at Babcock & Wilcox. He used his God given talents to advance from general labor to a machine operator to plant foreman. He worked for Babcock & Wilcox for 32 years, retiring on November 30, 1982. Prior to his retirement, he co-founded a Church and became ordained. He was a gifted and talented self-taught man and skilled in the trades. He could fix, repair, or build anything. Always generous with his time and talents, he was the family handyman and mechanic for his many relatives that lived in Milwaukee. Whenever they needed anything fixed they called Mr. Mosley. After retiring, Deacon Mosley was asked what would he do and what were his hobbies? He replied "WORK". He was always a hard worker and he built a second home from the ground up in Waterloo, WI overlooking the Crawfish River. He even did a little farming. He often referred to it as "up north". It was there that he introduced his children to fishing, hunting, canoeing, and enjoying nature. In June 1983, Floyd and Carrie moved back to Haughton, LA where he reunited with Mayflower Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon and church treasurer under the leadership of Reverend James Lee, Pastor. He also continued to “work", fixing, repairing and building two homes and served as the local handyman for relatives and friends. Due to declining health, he moved to San Antonio, TX in 2013 to be closer to his daughters. He enjoyed the remainder of his life traveling, playing dominos and bingo, watching westerns which he affectionally called "cowboys" visiting with family, and most of all going to church each and every Sunday at the Word of Faith Christian Center pastored by Reverend Rodney Pearson. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Mosley and one sister, Christine London Wright and his beloved wife, Carrie, of 61 years. We are confident they were waiting for him at the Gates of Heaven at 11:20 pm on November 22, 2019 and were full of joy when he arrived. Deacon Mosley leaves to cherish his memory one sister, Doris Hicks of CA; three sons, Harry Floyd Jr., Aka Willie (Josephine) of Jackson, TN, Londell (Emma) of Milwaukee, WI, Ronnie (Barbara Howard) of Haughton, LA; two daughters, Elaine Mosley Moss (Roland) and Colonel (retired) Brenda Mosley (Rick Gordon) of San Antonio, TX. and sister-in-law, Ceola Brewer, of Haughton, LA. Deacon Mosley (Paw Paw) has ten grandchildren: Jason Mosley - Ft. Worth, TX, Dr. Penny Mosley (Franklin Glover) - Covington, GA, Kristin Mosley Green (Roderick) - Ft. Worth, TX, Londell Dallas, Sr., (Aka - Drip) - Houston, TX, Wynton Moss (Ciara) - Indianapolis, IN, April Howard Armstrong (Marcello), Brenda Howard, Floyd Howard (Shaunterria), Christina Howard, and Kimberly Howard - Haughton, LA,. Ten great-grandchildren, Michaela Moss, Cartier Warren, Londell Dallas Jr., Darrell Hamilton Jr., (Aka DJ) Zachery Howard, Rodreekus Green, Evan Green, Leah Green, Floyd Howard Jr., and Emoni Armstrong. He was an uncle to a host of nieces and nephews. He will be remembered by an abundance of other family members (Wright's, Mosley's, and Webb's) along with friends and members of Mayflower Baptist Church in Haughton, LA and Word of Faith Christian Center in San Antonio, TX. Deacon Floyd Mosley affectionally known as "D" was a strong man, who loved life, was a loving father, and a man of God. He was always punctual and expected no less of anyone else. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
