Minister Reginald “Reggie” Andrew Johnson 1 was born on August 15, 1953 to the late Gradson Andrew Johnson and Beatrice Dorsey Johnson in Jacksonville, Florida. He received his education in the Duval County Public Schools System , graduating from William M. Raines High School, where he expressed interest in music and was a very talented saxophone and flute player. After graduation, Reginald attended Bethune Cookman College (BCC) and was a member of the Marching Men of Cookman. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. He married Alfreda Bryson Johnson on September 27, 1975 in Armstrong, Florida. He was a devoted father to Reginald II, Kendra and Tia. Reginald held membership with Universal Triumph, The Church of God and Kingdom of Christ, where the founder was the late Reverend George W. Harvey (Father Abraham II). He was employed with the Duval County Public School System and spent 35 years as a Band Director working at, Highlands Middle, John Gorrie Middle and Robert E. Lee High Schools. In 1990, Reginald began the Inaugural Band Program at First Coast High School, where he spent his last 20 years. Reginald retired from the school system, and returned to his first love of playing his saxophone and began performing with and directing the Recycle Orchestra and the Jacksonville Community Band. He earned his ministerial credentials and began ministering to inmates in the Duval County Prison System. He continued performing, conducting and ministering until he was side lined by illness. Reginald departed this life November 25, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gradson Andrew Johnson and Beatrice Dorsey Johnson. Reginald leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Alfreda Bryson Johnson; son, Reginald Andrew Johnson, II; daughters, Kendra Shuntell Bryson-Johnson (Valarie) and Tia Rashida Johnson; brothers, Kevin Johnson (Denise) and Shawn Johnson (Mia); sisters, Esterlita Rose, Alicyn Brooks (Stanley Sr.) and Sharon Martin; uncle, Willie Dorsey (Deloris); aunt, Vivian Moore; in-laws, Odessa Bryson, Sylvester Williams, Emmit Bryson (Beverly), Saundra Bargo (Ronnie), Karen Bryson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many devoted band members and friends, including his best friend, Jerry Carter.
