Randy Lee Schmidt, 67, of Wilson, Kansas passed away on Friday, November 22, 2019 at Ellsworth County Medical Center, as the result of his long fight and battle with cancer for 19 years. Randy was born in Ellsworth, Kansas to Alvin and Ilene Schmidt on August 3, 1952. On March 18, 1983 he was united in marriage to Delores Heard. To this union two children were born: a son, Lee and a daughter, Ashley. Randy attended school in Dorrance and Wilson, graduating from Wilson High School with the class of 1970. After graduation, he went to work for two years for Dreiling Construction. In 1972 he enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Fort Riley. He was in the Army for 3 years as part of the Big Red 1, attaining the rank of Sargent. Randy was a machinist at Caschco for 43 years and seldom missed a day until he retired on October 11, 2019. Randy was an active member of American Legion Post 262, Sons of the American Legion, and Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wilson. Randy dearly loved his family. He stated that Delores and Lee were his rocks and Ashley was his angel. Randy is survived by his wife of 36 years, Delores; daughter, Ashley of Wilson; son, Lee (Kiley Demel) of Wilson; his beloved dog, Sophie Jo; brother, Robert Schmidt (Julie) of Beloit, Kansas; sister, Cindy Heinze (Steve) of Wilson; aunts, Patricia Dinkel and Joann Betts; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, several aunts and uncles, a great-niece, and a grand-dog, Sally Jane. A Memorial service will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2819 Avenue F, Wilson, Kansas. Inurnment will follow in the Wilson City Cemetery, weather permitting. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00PM until 8:00PM with a prayer service at 7:00PM at the funeral home in Wilson. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to American Legion Post 262 or the Sons of the American Legion and may be sent in care Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, PO Box 533, Wilson, KS 67640.
