David A. Kortbein

David A. Kortbein, 71, of Marinette, passed away peacefully November 21, 2019 at Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area, surrounded by his family. He was born September 5, 1948 in Marinette to Harold and Myrtle (Johnson) Kortbein, residing in Marinette most of his life. He was a 1966 graduate of Marinette High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor degree in electrical engineering. Dave married Karen Schuette on Sept. 10, 1977 and together they had four children. Dave worked in Wausau at Marathon Electric for two years immediately after college. He then accepted a job at Marinette Marine Corporation as an electrical engineer and worked there for 45 years, retiring as chief electrical engineer in 2017. He had a variety of involvements: Sunday School teacher at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, church council member and president of the church, Boy Scout volunteer for many years, youth soccer coach for each of his children, original organizer of The Lords Diner and all-around volunteer at church. David is survived by his wife, Karen; four children, Mark (Ashley) Kortbein of Park Falls, Wis., Paul (Stephanie) Kortbein of Green Bay, Jennie Kortbein (Ashton) of Porterfield and Elizabeth Kortbein of Appleton, Wis. He has three grandchildren that were the loves of his life: David Kortbein, Hannah Kortbein and Hayden Kortbein. His surviving siblings are Terry (Deborah) Kortbein of Sturgeon Bay, Marion (Rick) Peterson of Appleton, and Todd (Melody) Kortbein of Niceville, Florida. He is further survived by nieces, Amanda (Joey) Manteufel and their four children from Appleton, goddaughter Emily (Tony) Leikip and their two children from Madison and Ronette (Chris) Johnson of Niceville, Florida. His surviving nephew is William (Marisa) Kortbein of Niceville, Florida and also a godson, Jared Schuette of Green Bay. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Marinette from 9AM to 11AM, followed by an 11AM memorial service. A special thank you to Drs. Hamden, Stephanie and Shalini , caregivers Ana, Stephanie and Anna, and oncology nurses Tracy and Hayley. Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home is assisting the family.
