Peter H. Wood

Peter Henry Wood, a kind-hearted gentle man with a ready smile and twinkling eye, died Wednesday November 20, 2019 in Bowling Green at the age of 85. He was a retired Associate Professor in the Educational Foundations and Inquiry Department in the College of Education at Bowling Green State University. Dr. Wood began his career at BGSU in 1971. During his tenure there he taught classes in educational psychology, assessment and evaluation, research methodology, and statistics. He also was the director of the Help-A-Child Tutoring Program and a long-term member of the Faculty Senate. Prior to his appointment at BGSU, he taught educational psychology at Hunter College in City College of the City University of New York, and biology and chemistry at New York Military Academy. Dr. Wood graduated from New York Military Academy in 1952, attended Harvard University and earned a B.A. Degree in History and Political Science from Jacksonville State University in 1958. He also earned a M.A. Degree in History and Education from Teachers College, Columbia University in 1961, a M. Ed. Degree in Science Education from the University of Georgia in 1967, a Professional Diploma in Supervision of Science Education at Teachers College, Columbia University in 1967, and an Ed. D in Educational Psychology: Human Learning and Cognition from Teachers College, Columbia Universty in 1980. He was a member of the American Educational Research Association, the American Psychological Association, Phi Delta Kappa, and the National Council on Measurement in Education. He also was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and a volunteer with Wheeled Meals. Born July 3, 1934 in Cornwall, New York to C. Henry and Kathleen (Foley) Wood, he married Jane H. Krone on June 16, 1979. She survives. Also surviving is his nephew Michael Wood of Bessemer, Alabama and a sister-in-law Laurel Krone of Bowling Green, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David Wood and niece Jodi Lyn Krone. There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held Tuesday November 26, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bowling Green. Pastor Rob Spicer will officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted to Dunn Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
