Shirley Smith, 88 years, of Rome went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, with her family by her side. She had been a patient at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital since November 9th. Born in Rome on April 6, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Augustus and Anna (Marshall) Mortis. She was a 1950 graduate of Rome Free Academy and on December 1, 1951, she was united in marriage to James W. “Smitty” Smith, a blessed union of nearly 68 years. Shirley attended St. Paul’s Church and loved spending time with her family, vacationing in Florida and having coffee with her cousins and friends at McDonald’s. She is survived by her loving husband, James (Jim); two sons, Randy and his wife Maureen and Scott; a daughter-in-law, Barb: four grandchildren, Ashley (Justin) Copperwheat , Danielle (Andrew)Wight, Justin (Lauren)Smith and Kayla Smith,; two great-grandchildren, Adelyn Copperwheat and Bodhi Wight; a sister-in-law Elizabeth Crouch and brother-in-law Max Smith. A Mass of Christian of Burial will be held on Saturday, November 23rd at 10:30 a.m.at St Paul’s Church, 1807 Bedford St., Rome. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc. 418 N.
