Rosemary (Higginbotham) Thompson Linton Obituary

Rosemary (Higginbotham) Thompson Linton, 77, of Marshall, IL, passed away on November 19, 2019, at Willowbrook Care Facility in Marshall. She was born in Martinsville, IL on March 28, 1942, to Ormal and Opal (Alexander) Higginbotham. She was a graduate of the 1960 class of Martinsville High School. Rosemary married Herman Thompson on June 4, 1960 and would go on to share a life with their six children in Marshall. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Herman, and a son, Brent E. Thompson. Rosemary was an active member of West Union Christian Church for many years. She was known for her pies throughout her community and always had an open table available to friends. Being both a farmer’s daughter and a farmer’s wife, it comes as no surprise that Rosemary was a tireless worker. Early in her married life, she was employed at H&H Grain Company in Snyder, IL. In 1983, she found employment at TRW, where she retired after 18 years of service. Soon after retirement, Rosemary married Robert Linton of Paris, IL, on June 22, 2001. Together, Bob and Rosemary enjoyed traveling, having visited much of the United States, including Alaska, Hawaii, and Niagra Falls. At home, she put her naturally green thumb to work in her garden and could grow just about anything she could get her hands on. She will be remembered as a selfless soul who cared deeply and loved whole-heartedly. The twilight years of her life found her active in the Lake Ridge Christian Church in Paris, IL. No one could ever doubt the devotion Rosemary had for her Savior. She gave Jesus her heart and soul and lived to be a light in the darkness. We have assurance that when she passed to her eternal reward, she was met with the words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." Rosemary is survived by her husband of 18 years, Robert Linton and her children Jackie (Terry) Birchfield of Marshall, Timothy (Sarah) Thompson of Martinsville, Angela (Bradley) Thompson of Marshall, Curtis (Cathy) Thompson of West Union, and Chad (Megan) Thompson of Columbus, IN. Survivors also include her twelve grandchildren Steven (Kendra) Birchfield, Dustin (Heather) Birchfield, Shelby (Lewis) Sanborn, Aaron Thompson, Chelsea (Jerome) Hoffman, Layne (Patrick) White, Tyler Thompson, Caden and Carter Thompson, and Paxton, Holden, and Quinn Thompson. Rosemary was also blessed by ten great-grandchildren MacKenzie and Briana Sanders, Aiden and Peyton Birchfield, Kyson, Brayleigh, and Braxtin Birchfield, Zach and Karlie Hoffman, and James Sanborn; by her step-children, David Linton of Victory, TX, Rebecca Knobel of the United Kingdom, Sherri Laughlin of Sandwich, IL; as well as several step-grandchildren;by her brothers, Floyd (Glenda) Higginbotham of Marshall, Charles (Phyllis) Higginbotham of Martinsville, Gene (Judy) Higginbotham of Martinsville and Robert (Sheryl) Higginbotham of Martinsville. Aside from her late husband and son, Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Louise Veach and Hazel Austin; and her brothers, Clifford and Chester Higginbotham. She was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Brendan Birchfield. A time of visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22nd at the West Union Christian Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 23rd at the church with burial following in the Ohio Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the "West Union Christian Church", "Lake Ridge Christian Church", or to "Pinehaven Christian Children's Ranch", a residential, year-round program aimed at providing a stable, controlled, secure environment in which young people can reach the potential that God has placed within them. Envelopes will be available at the church. The Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union is in charge of arrangements.
