Hilda Wilson Obituary

Hilda (Cordes) Wilson, age 88, of Grand Rapids, peacefully moved to her Heavenly home lovingly surrounded by family members as she ended her earthly journey on Sunday, May 15, 2016. Hilda was born to Frank and Lydia Cordes on the first day of spring, March 20, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from Wheaton College and then Faith Theological Seminary, where she met her husband, Donald Wilson. She leaves behind and will be deeply missed by her husband of 62 years, Donald; her daughter, Sarah Hardy; her son, David F. Wilson; her grandchildren, Kara Wilson, Rebecca Wilson (Michael Ortiz), David A. (Sabrina) Wilson, Zoe (Kevin) Quinn-Kelly; her six great-grandchildren, Rohmell, Jada, Rayne, Leah, Carly and Roger; brother, William (Polly) Cordes; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Hilda opened her heart and home to many creating a large extended family; most notably, and like a son, Moses Kugbeh. In addition to her family, Hilda’s other passions included textile art, global non-profit fair trade commerce, and her church, Church of the Servant CRC. Hilda served on the board and volunteered at Global Gifts and her service to the church in multiple capacities spanned many decades. Most of all, she was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family and friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 21, 4:00 pm at Church of the Servant (3835 Burton St. SE, 49546) with Rev. Jack Roeda officiating. The family will greet visitors at church on Friday evening, May 20, from 7-9 pm. If one wishes, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Church of the Servant Refugee Fund.
