Charles J. Nylund Marinette, Wisconsin Obituary

Charles J. Nylund

Charles J. Nylund, 86, of Menominee, passed away on November 16, 2019, at Rennes Health Center East in Peshtigo. Charlie was born on November 14, 1933, to Wilbert (Peppa) and Antonette (Jenny) Nylund. Charlie graduated from Marinette High School in 1951. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War. As a young man, Charlie enjoyed working at Pedersens Fish House, and then commercial fishing with his father. His love for fishing continued for 70 more years on the Great Lakes. Charlie also served the City of Menominee for 20 years as a firefighter. Charlie married Nancy Monson on August 27, 1955, at Bethel Lutheran Church. Together they had two children. Charlie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nancy; daughter, Kim (Pete) Pericolosi and their son, Jacob (Jenn) Pericolosi; son, Kevin (Laura) Nylund; and their daughters, Courtney (Jason) Beecher and Madelynn Nylund. He is further survived by three great-grandchildren, Brody, Kenadee and Jake. Other survivors include a sister, Katherine Francour; a brother, Ken (Marge) Nylund; a sister-in-law, Molly Monson; and five nieces and one nephew. Charlie is also survived by his life-long friend, Jim Derusha. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donnie; a sister, Joan; his mother and father-in-law, Pearl and Walter Monson; and a brother-in-law, Ken Monson. As a commercial fisherman, Charlie had the pleasure of making many friends in many ports! They all became an important part of his life, and still are. Charlie was a lifetime member of the Michigan Fish Producers Association. Visitation for Charlie will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home in Marinette. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Scott Ehle officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. The family would like to express sincere gratitude and special thanks to Dr. Hamdan and his staff, and to the caring nurses and CNAs (200 wing) at Rennes East. They truly were Charlies angels! The family would also like to thank the compassionate Unity Hospice staff, especially Sarah, our social worker and friend. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Charlies honor.
