JoAnn Berger Obituary

JoAnn Berger, 76, of Nashua, Iowa and formerly from Horton passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.       JoAnn Berger was born on June 16, 1943, the daughter of Peter “Bill” and Ella (Voight) Jacobs in Nashua, Iowa. She graduated from Greene high school in 1961. On April 15, 1967, she was united in marriage to Leon A. Berger at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greene, Iowa. They lived their whole married life in Horton. JoAnn was employed at BuyLow convenience store in Plainfield and then at K & L Drapery in Waverly, retiring in 2008.       She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly, Greater Plainfield and Axillary member of the Greene American Legion. JoAnn taught Sunday school and was a Cub Scout Den mother. She enjoyed baking, gardening, canning, quilting, and sewing. Having her finger nails painted and wearing fancy earrings was the love of her life.       Survivors are her five children; Victoria (William) Bennett of Newton, Iowa, Daniel (Stacey) Berger of Nashua, Iowa, Douglas (Melissa) Berger of Denver, Iowa, Cynthia (Ronald) Schlimgen of Shell Rock, Kathleen (Anthony) Allen of Indianapolis, Indiana, seven grandchildren, Brice (Emily) Berger, Cole (Allison Roach) Berger, Charlie Bennett, Ian Bennett, Ty Berger, Reese Berger and Aricia Allen; three sisters, Donna Spratt of Greene, Iowa, Judy (Lemar) Chester of Plainfield, Iowa and Janet (Blair) Adams of Oklahoma; brother, Richard (Marian) Jacobs of Greene, Iowa and sister-in-law, Angie Jacobs. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon on December 9, 2009; two sisters, Gladys (Chuck) Young and Barbara Jacobs; two brothers, LeRoy (Leona) Jacobs and Earl Jacobs and a brother-in-law, Jim Spratt.       Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at 10:30 am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly with Fr. David Ambrosy presiding. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Waverly. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly.
