View Margaret's Tribute Video Margaret Leona Connors, 90, of Galesburg, died at 5:07 a.m.  Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg.   Margaret was born May 8, 1925 in Moline, the daughter of Leon and Mary Colpert Somers.   She graduated from St. Mary’s High School.  Margaret married Eugene Connors on May 19, 1951 in Moline.  He preceded her in death on April 20, 2015.  Margaret is survived by two sons, James (Rebecca) of Galesburg and John of St. Thomas, USVI; two daughters, Mary (Doug) Witting of Griffith, IN and Teresa (Peter Deeman) Connors of Elmhurst; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Sarah Connors.  Along with her husband, Margaret was preceded in death by her father, Leon Somers; her mother and step father, Mary (Louie) Hinsberger.   Margaret began working at First National Bank in Moline in 1944 and worked there over 10 years.  After they moved to Galesburg, Margaret worked as the lunch cashier at Gale Middle School from 1971 to 1987.  After retirement, Margaret and Gene moved to Florida for 22 years.  They returned to Galesburg in 2009.  Margaret was a longtime member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  She loved cooking, baking and sewing for her family.  Margaret had a kind and caring heart.  She loved meeting and talking to people and learning about their lives.  She was a lover of animals, enjoyed riding her bike and was an avid reader.   Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory.  The rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m.  Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, September 28, 2015 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Rev. Msgr. Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Guardian Angels Humane Society, or to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, 1140 W. Jackson Blvd. Chicago, IL , 60607.
