Helen (Cindy) Bursey Burdick

Helen “Cindy” Bursey Burdick, age 55, of Dayville and formerly of Stratford, the loving wife of Harold A. Burdick, Jr. for over thirty-six years, lost her battle with liver disease on Saturday, November 16, 2019. Born in Bridgeport to Raymond and Fannie (Parker) Bursey, she was the only girl of seven brothers. Cindy attended school in Stratford, CT and obtained her GED at EastConn in Danielson, CT. Cindy’s passion was racing, bingo and spending time with her family. Cindy could light up a room with her infectious smile and positive attitude and always looked forward to seeing everyone. She started gokart racing in 1986 and was the 1990 Poughkeepsie Speedway Champion. Through the years, she sponsored different race cars as well as continued her gokart racing. In 2009, she decided to take her next move and got into Nascar Stock Car Racing as an owner. Starting out in mini stocks, she quickly moved up to the New.England Truck series and three years ago, moved to the SK Lite Division with her driver, Bert Oullette. In 2019, her team finished second in points at the Thompson Speedway. She was a member of Cindy’s Racers, a Relay for Life team in northeast CT. Prior to her illness, she was employed at Putnam Plastics and at the Rite Aide Warehouse. In addition to her husband, Cindy is survived by her mother, Fannie Bursey of Stratford; her brothers, Raymond (Robin) Bursey of SC, Craig (Maria) Bursey of Ansonia, Ronald (Laura) Bursey of SC, Reginald (Melinda) Bursey of SC and Clifford Bursey of Stratford. She was predeceased by her father, Raymond and her two brothers, Carl and Eugene. Friends may greet her family on Thursday from 11:00-12:00 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road in Fairfield Center. A funeral service will be held at 12 noon with burial to follow in Mt. Grove Cemetery.
