Donald Ray Sweeney

Sweeney, Donald R., 85, of Jacksonburg, WV, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Facility in Clarksburg, WV. He was born April 29, 1934 in Folsom, WV, the son of the late John Christopher and Amanda (Hoskinson) Sweeney. Don was a retired car salesman for the old Bill Forbes garage. He was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean War, He attended the Pine Grove Christian Church, Member of the Shortline Lions Club, Caretaker at the Lantz Farm for Wheeling Jesuit College, Member of the Board at the Jacksonburg Fire Department, Member of the Pine Grove Sportsmans Club, Board of Directors for Wetzel County PSD, and also helped with the Valley High School football team and boosters for many years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Laura Jane Canzona and Mary June Sweeney, four brothers, Sam, Freddie, Bernard and Bill Sweeney. Surviving is his wife, Barbara (Miller) Sweeney, two daughters, Anita (Chris) Harman of Wallace and Mary Jane (Ramie) Scyoc of Reader, five grandchildren, Toni (Tony) Hupp, Cody (Tiffany) Elder, Olivia, Sommer and Coy Scyoc, three step-grandchildren, Alyssa (Sam) Evans, Alyvia and Gage Harman, a great grandson, Bryar Hupp, two great step-grandchildren, Samson and Cora Evans, three brothers, Joe, Jack and Warren Sweeney, and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 4-7 PM at Palmer Funeral Home, Pine Grove, WV. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at 1 PM at the Pine Grove Christian Church.
