Walter Glen “Fruit” Carter 85, of Fort Blackmore went to be with the Lord on November 15, 2019 at his home. He was born in Fort Blackmore to the late Emmitt and Maude Carter. Glen served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired auto body repairman and was an avid outdoorsman. Glen was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Anna Lee Wheatley and Inez Dean; brothers, Gene Carter and J. Fred Carter; infant brothers, Claude and Roy Carter; son-in-law, A.C. Hill Jr. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Matilda “Tilly” Carter; sons, Walter Craig Carter and wife Judy, Larry Joe Carter; daughters, Mary Lawson, Donna Rose and husband Doug, and Lori Hill; grandchildren, Chasity Dorton and husband Chris, Emmett Carter, Tim Carter, and Heather Rhoton; great-grandchildren, Hunter Fugate and wife Brianna, Marissa Dorton, Jacob Carter, and Alex Rhoton; sister, Evelyn Brickey and husband Jimbo; along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm Monday, November 18, 2019 at Scott County Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Gene Stallard and Pastor Terry Rhoton officiating. Music will be provided by the Durham’s Chapel Quartet. The family will also receive friends anytime at their home. A military graveside service will be conducted at 1pm on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at the Carter Family Cemetery on the family farm in Fort Blackmore. Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3/265. Pallbearers will be Chris Dorton, Emmett Carter, Hunter Fugate, Tim Carter, Bill Darnell, Jason Hill, Chuck Starnes, and David Starnes. Honorary pallbearers will be Randall “Buck” Kinkead, Mack Pierson, Junior Lane, David Mann, Gary Hill, and Doug Arnold. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12pm to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregiver Judy Carter and the staff of Ballad Hospice for their loving care. Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Carter family.
