John Anthony Coakley, Sr., “Grumpy,” 77, of Westminster passed away Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Stella Maris in Lutherville. Born July 1, 1942 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Arthur Timothy and Ruth Margaret (Bensen) Coakley. He was the loving husband of Mary (Reiter) Coakley who predeceased him July 16, 2013. John was a 1964 graduate of Loyola College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. He was the owner of John A. Coakley & Assoc. for many years. He was a volunteer firefighter in Gamber. He was an active member and usher at St. John Roman Catholic Church in Westminster. He was the past President of the Kennedy’s Disease Association. He was actively involved in Mission of Mercy. He invented the “Coakley Cane” and helped many people with his innovative ideas and concepts. He made a difference in the lives of many, and will be dearly missed. He is survived by his children John A. Coakley, Jr (Stacy) of Westminster, Louise Coakley (Lisa Martin) of Hanover PA, Mary Clare Hoerl (Rick) of Finksburg and Sarah Kawa (Fred) of Towson; grandchildren (Emily, Carly, Anna, Darius, Aurora, Ricky, Charlie, Sam, Dewey, Regan, and Paige). He is also survived by siblings Eleanor Simpson (Larry) of Tucson, AZ; Elaine Kielman (George) of Ellicott City; Donald Coakley (Sandy) of Xenia, OH; Marny Needle (Donald) of Pensacola, FL, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, November 21, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. John Roman Catholic Church, 43 Monroe Street, Westminster. Interment will follow in Druid Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Kennedy’s Disease Association, PO Box 1105, Coarsegold, CA 93614-1105. www.kennedysdisease.org. “May you live as long as you want to, and want to as long as you live.
