Marilyn K. Gokey Obituary

Marilyn Gokey, age 82 of Allouez, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 25, 1937 to the late George and Nellie (Linssen) Vanden Heuvel in Green Bay. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy and during her high school years, was the lead in several school plays. At nineteen, she went to Mississippi and served as a Missionary for two years. On September 26, 1959, she married Al Gokey, who preceded her in death on April 11, 2018. Marilyn was a homemaker, raising their four children, but was also an artist. She worked at many florists in the area as a floral arranger, then opened her own floral store, Marilyn’s Baskets, Blossoms and Bows in De Pere and Fish Creek. She was a painter, working with watercolors and acrylics, her pieces winning many awards in Door County, but most importantly, becoming treasured pieces of her friends and family. Marilyn also loved traveling with her husband Al. They traveled across the US, to other countries, enjoyed camping and took several cruises. Her final trip to Rome was her most inspired trip. Marilyn was a member of many clubs, including, Sheepshead Club, Arts Club, Bridge Club and Kluppa Club. Her Catholic faith was very strong and was a pro-life advocate. Spending time with her family, her children and grandchildren was her greatest joy. Marilyn is survived by her children; Carrie (Bill) Stempski, Lynn (Mike) Jadin, Mark Gokey and Allen (Mariana) Gokey, grandchildren; Jacqueline and Joseph Stempski, Matt (fiancée Kayla) Sam, Danny (fiancée Sara) and Adam Jadin, Chris (Lisa), Alana, Maria and Julia Gokey, Giuseppe and Valentina Pesce and two great grandchildren; Kenadie and Levi. She is further survived by her sisters Elaine Leiberg and Joanie (Fran) Froelich as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her granddaughter Annabella Gokey and sisters, Eleanor Ohara and Bernice Hockers. Family and friends may gather on November 22, 2019 at St. Matthew Parish, 130 St. Matthew Street, Green Bay beginning at 9:00am until 10:45am, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00am, with Rev.
