Mrs. Hermina Uittenbogaard, age 93, of Boyden, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, November 20, at 11:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Boyden. The Rev. Steven Bierly and The Rev. David Poppen will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Sheridan Township Cemetery, near Boyden. There will be a family prayer service on Wednesday, at 9:45am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home. Hermina was born on February 24, 1926, at home near Sioux Center, to Teunis and Dena (Zeutenhorst) Jansen. She grew up on her family’s farm and attended country school through the eighth grade. She was united in marriage to Willis Gerald Uittenbogaard on November 20, 1947, at her parents’ home. They first made their home on the Jansen farm before moving to a farm place southeast of Boyden. In 1962, they moved to a home in Boyden where Mina spent her days lovingly caring for the needs of her family and many others. During their retirement years, Willis and Mina spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona. In 2007, they moved into the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon. In January of 2015, they became residents of the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, where Willis passed away on July 25, 2018, after more than seventy years of marriage. Mrs. Uittenbogaard was a member of the First Reformed Church in Boyden where she had participated in the Ladies Aide. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening, embroidery, quilting, playing card games, and baking cookies for others, and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins. Survivors include her four children, Leon “Ike” (Phyllis) Uittenbogaard, of Hull; Les Uittenbogaard, of North Palm Beach, Florida; Marlin (Tamie) Uittenbogaard, of Boyden; and Rhonda (Ron) De Groot, of Des Moines; ten grandchildren, Chad Uittenbogaard, Kathy Poppema, Jeff Uittenbogaard, Steve Uittenbogaard, Michael Uittenbogaard, Melissa Woodley, Nichole Kelderman, Eric Uittenbogaard, Ethan De Groot, and Jared De Groot; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; five siblings, Cornie (Anna) Jansen, of Hull; Bernice De Vos, of Sioux Center; Muriel (Stan) Van Otterloo, of Orange City; Harriet (Eldon) Tesch, of Spencer; and Thelma (Ron) Van Zee, of Sioux Center; a sister-in-law, Gert Jansen, of Sioux Center; a brother-in-law, John Miltenberger, of Sloan; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five siblings, Gerdena Jansen, Cora (Arend) Broek, Edward Jansen, Ann (Art) Kamerman, and Gordie Miltenberger; and a brother-in-law, Irv De Vos. Memorials may be directed to Kindred Hospice, 1370 Lake Street, Spirit Lake, Iowa 51360.
