Eleanor McGregor Obituary

Passed away, in the presence of her children, Cindy, Jeff, and Pat, at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on Nov. 8 following a Primary Brain Cancer (GBM Gr. IV) diagnosis in June, 2019. Eleanor was 76 years old. Always proud to call Calgary, AB her birthplace, Eleanor graduated from Crescent Heights High in June of 1960. After starting her family in 1962, having three children in under 3 years, Eleanor returned to school and earned her Associate Diploma in Nursing from Mount Royal College and received her certificate of entitlement to be known as a Registered Nurse in November 1972. Eleanor practiced nursing in Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Mississauga. In the 1980’s she refocused her energies toward the not-for-profit sector in a number of roles, including the capacity of Executive Director, until her retirement. Eleanor was predeceased by her beloved grandmother, Gram, (1992), her father (1994), her mother (2014) and is survived by her brother Don. Eleanor took extraordinary pride in her 4 eldest grandchildren Erin, Alexandra, Bailey, & Yvette enjoying biennial trips to the Land Down Under from the early 1990’s thru 2007 to visit them. She was also a doting Grandma to her youngest grandchild Mason, born in 2012, whom she adored spending lots of time with as he lived nearby in Oakville. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, funeral service, or celebration of life - those were Eleanor’s wishes. The list of healthcare providers, caregivers, support workers and volunteers who were so genuinely kind, compassionate, caring and patient in helping Eleanor through her end of life journey over the past 5 months was significant! Your unwavering support through some extraordinarily trying times was instrumental to ensuring Eleanor’s comfort and safety and provided peace of mind for her family - for that we are enormously grateful to all of you! Special thanks to Dr. Kazem, Yolanda Richardson and the Palliative Care team at OTMH! Our sincerest gratitude is especially extended to: Wendy Vella, the Client Services Team and all the PSW’s at OSCR; St. Elizabeth’s Healthcare Nurses at OSCR; Staff at O.S.R. Pharmacy; Marlene Grzesiak, Palliative Care Coordinator, Regional Programs, LHIN; Chris Monaghan, RN, Acclaim Health; Connect Care Staff and Volunteers at OTMH; Angela Lee, Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner, LHIN Dr. Massoud, OTMH; Nurses and staff on 6C Oncology at OTMH; All the Bartimaeus Behaviour Support Workers, but most notably Nataliya; Nurses and staff on 5S at OTMH; Nurses and staff in the 3N Palliative Care Unit at OTMH.
