John Fitzgerald

It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of John Herbert Fitzgerald on November 12, 2019 at the Halifax Infirmary, surrounded by those in life that brought him the most joy, his family. Born in Sydney, NS on January 22, 1954, he was a son of the late John and Lucy Fitzgerald. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Cheryl (Fitzpatrick); son Nick (Jessica), Greenfield; daughter Megan Burgess (Ike), Murray Siding; son Matt (Vivian) Bible Hill; grandchildren Charlie, Kate, and Mac Fitzgerald; Sylvie Burgess; and brother Russell Fitzgerald (Sherri). Also left to mourn are many nieces and nephews and a large Fitzpatrick family who adored him. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his parents-in-law, Jack and Sylvia Fitzpatrick and sister-in-law, Cathy Fitzpatrick. John was a true lover of all sports. He was a loyal fan of the New York Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, and the Truro Bearcats. John’s most treasured memories took place on Caribou Island with family and friends, and especially bass fishing with the boys. John gave back to his community by dedicating countless hours to coaching hockey and baseball as his boys grew up. John’s greatest joy were his four grandchildren, whom he loved with all his heart. A special thank you to the nurses and doctors of the ICU unit of the Colchester East Hants Health Centre and the Halifax Infirmary 6.1.
