Hazel Bartanus

Hazel Bartanus, 96, of Avella, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2019 in Strabane Woods of Washington, where she had resided since July 18, 2012 and received excellent care. She was born February 22, 1923 in Daisytown, PA, daughter of the late Alexander and Mary Kovacs Kayatin. Mrs. Bartanus was a member of the Avella Presbyterian Church and the Cross Creek Valley Senior Citizens. She was a resident of Avella since 1944. On March 30, 1940 in the Eldersville Methodist Church she married Pete Bartanus, who died May 7, 1987. Surviving Mrs. Bartanus are, two grandchildren, Leisa Ann Montgomery and Lance (Robert) Sandor Lyons, both of Weirton, WV; two great grandchildren, Justin Montgomery and his fiancée Vickie Haddon and Erica (Dave) Cline; seven great great grandchildren, David, Ryan, Lindsey, Edie, Bayliegh, Kylie and Tyler. Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband and parents; a son, Peter Alexander Bartanus, a daughter, Gloria Joyce Lyons; two grandchildren, Jamie Montgomery and Thomas Lindsey Montgomery Jr.; four sisters, Margaret Sabo, Helen Giglio, Ethel Rohrbaugh and Elizabeth Kayatin Frantz; and a brother William F. Kayatin. Friends and family will be received from 11am until 1pm, the time of the service, on Wednesday, November 13, in the Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home, Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312, with Pastor Tim Sweigart, of Bethany Hospice, officiating. Burial will be in West Point Cemetery, Avella, PA.
