Jerry Bachiu

Jerry Bachiu

Gerald Edward “Jerry” Bachiu has gone peacefully home to his Lord. Born in Hamilton, Jerry moved to Owen Sound in 1975 to work in the family business, Hilltop Transmission, of which he eventually assumed ownership. After the business closed, Jerry continued to work in the automotive industry at Halton Transmission, Mr. Transmission, Bumstead Ford, Goudy Motors and Gardhouse Chrysler. Jerry was active as a Scout Leader and took special pride in his role as a deacon at Woodford Baptist Church. Unfortunately, in 2015 Jerry was diagnosed with lung cancer and began treatment in Owen Sound and at the Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton. Jerry faced these challenges with grace and dignity, but sadly lost his fight on November 10th, 2019 in Owen Sound. Jerry is survived by his wife Wendy (nee Waterton), son Graeme & his wife Jen and his daughter, Kate and husband Matthew Civiero. He was a special Pop-pop to his grandchildren Olive & Malcolm. Brother of Bruce Karras (Bev), Don Bachiu (Karen), Janis Duench, Karen Bachiu-Risi, Margaret Cordery (Bruce), Alan Bachiu (Jayne) and Patti Bachiu. A favourite uncle to many nieces and nephews. Missed by his friend, Harry Rawn. Predeceased by his parents, Jim & Lucy Bachiu, his brothers, Ken & Bob Bachiu, his brother-in-law, Rod Duench and his parents-in-law, Glynn & Lois Waterton. Jerry loved photography, camping in his favourite vintage Boler trailer and singing in the church chorale. Avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. As he went through treatment, he made it his goal to see his twin grandchildren begin school, which they did in September, 2019. We were all so proud of him throughout his life and we will miss him with all our hearts. Friends may call at the BRIAN E. WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 250 – 14th Street West, Owen Sound, Ontario N4K 3X8 (519-376-7492) on Friday, November 22nd, 2019 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A Memorial Service for Jerry Bachiu will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel, on Saturday, November 23rd, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Cliff Rummenie officiating. Interment at a later date in Annan Cemetery, Annan. If so desired, the family would appreciate donations to the Woodford Baptist Church or the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation for oncology as an expression of sympathy. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family on-line at www.woodfuneralhome.ca
