Richard Jr. Baker

Richard Jr. Baker, age 76 of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, November 8, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. A native of Moore County, Richard was an accomplished farmer, school bus driver, and local business owner. Richard was a lifelong member of Hickory Hill Baptist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed his garden, fishing, hunting, and being a prankster. He was born on August 10, 1943 to the late Lenard and Pearlie (Branch) Baker. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son, Charles “Ricky” Baker and brothers, Edward “Buster” Baker, J.D. Baker, James Baker, and Bobby Baker. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Betty (Reese) Baker of Lynchburg; son, Randy M. Baker and significant other Michelle Gattis of Lynchburg; son, Steven Reese Baker and wife Janell M. Baker, grandson, Steven “Reese” Baker II, granddaughter, Robin Marie Baker of Rockwall, TX; honorary daughter, Molly Smith and husband Michael and son Camden Smith of Tullahoma; brother, Clifton “Kip” and Ruby Baker of Lynchburg. Visitation will be from 11am-2pm on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at Jennings-Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Jennings-Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Danny Baker officiating and eulogy given by son, Steven Baker. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery and dinner at approximately 4:30 p.m. will be served at Hickory Hill Baptist Church of Lynchburg.
