Samuel B. Hess

Samuel B. Hess of Haddonfield, NJ, passed away on December 10, 2015. Beloved husband for 58 years to Dorothy (nee Becker). Loving father of Christopher Hess (Diane) of Mohnton, PA and Julie Hughes (Brian) of Haddonfield, NJ. Devoted grandfather of Samantha K. Hess; Abigail C. Hess; Emily J. Hughes; Sarah E. Hughes and Katherine R. Hughes. Dear brother of Mary Anne Tucker of Tampa, FL. and the late Mildred Putnam; Della May Fredrikson and Phillip Hess. Sam was veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in both WWII and the Korean War. He had a long and distinguished career as an engineer with Westinghouse, retiring in 1987 while earning a MSME from Drexel University in 1966. An avid sailor, he served as commodore of Cooper River Yacht Club. He was captain of his cherished sailboat Anyway Two creating memories of family vacations on the Chesapeake. Sam was an expert woodworker, and worked with electronics and computers. He loved gardening and golfing, and volunteered at polling places at election time. And, for his five granddaughters, he had a special place in his heart. Relatives and friends will gather Tuesday, December 22, 2015 from 10:30 to 11am in Holy Eucharist R.C. Church, 344 Kresson Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034. Mass of Christian burial Tuesday 11am. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3 Eves Drive, Suite 310, Marlton, NJ 08053.
