Marjorie B. Mathews, age 89, died Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township, NJ. Born March 18, 1930 in Somerville NJ, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Raymond and Myrtle (Hann) Mathews. She has lived in Hunterdon County nearly all of her life, moving from Somerville to Quakertown in 1938. In first grade, Marjorie met the love of her life, Charles W. Mathews, and the two were married in 1948. She raised three girls who remember fondly the house filled with the music of Judy Garland. Marjorie loved a good crossword puzzle and playing cards with her friends and family. A talented artist, she painted many portraits using the canvas with oil or watercolor for her many beautiful creations. Marjorie worked in the Pittstown Post Office for twenty years until her retirement. She was a long-time member of the Quakertown United Methodist Church and the Quakertown Fire Company Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, Marjorie was predeceased by her brother, Harold LeRoy Mathews. She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Charles W. Mathews, her three daughters, Beverly Joan McElroy of Effingham IL, Linda Jean Higgins of Delaware Township NJ, Julie Ann Edwards of Washington NJ, her sister, B. Joan Mathews of Pittstown NJ, her four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ 08822. A brief memorial service will follow the visitation on Wednesday evening. Interment will take place privately at Cherryville Mountainview Cemetery in Cherryville NJ.
