Don K. Swart was born on November 7th, 1927 in Chandler, Minnesota. Don spent his childhood in Chandler, attending school there and marrying Loraine Gilbertson in December of 1945. Don and Loraine had four children: Faye (Lee) Hulstein, Steven (Joli) Swart, Lynn (Darrell) Conrady and Luanne (David) Pieper. Loraine passed away on April 20, 1965. On August 19th, 1966, Don married Dorothy Meyer. Don and Dorothy had two children: Leslie (Merri-Sue) Swart and Amy (Scott) Peters. Over Don’s years in Chandler, he was a man of many trades: Fire Chief, Postmaster, carpenter, cafe owner, and farmer (which didn’t go too well). In 1967, Don, Dorothy, and family moved to Shakopee, Minnesota. While living in Shakopee, he dedicated 18 years to the Bloomington School System, in addition to working multiple part time jobs to do his best to provide for his family. Due to failing health, Don had hospice care in the last month of his life and was moved to Friendship Manor Nursing home on November 4th, 2019. Don passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 8th, 2019. Don is survived by his wife, Dorothy; five children, Faye (Lee) Hulstein, Steven (Joli) Swart, Lynn (Darrell) Conrady, Luanne (David) Pieper, and Amy (Scott) Peters; daughter-in-law, Merri-Sue Verner; sister, Darlene Francis; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his first wife, Loraine Swart; son, Leslie Swart; granddaughters, Terri Ford and Rita Nissen; great-grandson, Justin Weinkauf; parents and 7 siblings. We were all blessed to know Don and share in his life. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital Hospice.
