Joseph Abraham McDuffie Obituary

Joseph Abraham McDuffie was born on September 9, 1937 in Mechanicsville, South Carolina, son of the late Elijah and Mattie McDuffie. He was educated at Mechanicsville Elementary School and Ebeneezer High School in Sumter, South Carolina. At an early age, Joseph became a member of Mechanicsville United Methodist Church in Sumter, South Carolina. He faithfully attended the church until he relocated to Newark, New Jersey at the age of eighteen. In 1990, Joseph became a member of First Baptist Church in Linden up until his passing. He was employed by TruTech in Linden, New Jersey where he worked in the Shipping/Receiving Department until he retired in 2005. Joseph, affectionately known as “Shot,” was loved by all who knew him and was full of life. He enjoyed making people laugh as well as having a good laugh himself. He was a hard worker with a great work ethic. He genuinely loved his family and friends. On Sunday, November 3, 2019, Joseph was called home to glory from his residence in Roselle, New Jersey. He was predeceased by his wife, Lillie Mae McDuffie; and two brothers, Elijah McDuffie and Joshua McDuffie. Joseph leaves to cherish fond memories, his two sons: Michael F. McDuffie of Roselle, NJ and Dale McDuffie (Gladys) of Orlando, FL; three daughters: Beverly A. Wood (Purchase) of Orange Park, FL, Saundra McDuffie (Douglas) of Lawrenceville, GA and Sheri McClain of Richmond, VA; two sisters: Queen Elizabeth Bolden and Mable Gass of Sumter, SC; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
