Sylvia Horry

Sylvia Horry was born in Troy, Alabama on April 2, 1936 to the late Edward and Luella Williams. She confessed Christ at an early age uniting with Mount Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Isaiah Durr where she was baptized. She attended and graduated from Peck High School in Fernandina Beach Florida. She later met and married Reynard Horry in Fernandina Beach. From this union was born one daughter Theadessa Williams. Sylvia Horry loved her church family and was actively involved as church clerk for many years. She also served on the church’s hospitality team. Sylvia was consecrated and installed as Mother of Harvest Outreach Ministries and received numerous awards of appreciation for her faithful and dedicated service. She also received various honors and awards for her 35 years of service as an Operating Room Technician at Humphries Memorial Hospital and Nassau General Hospital. Sylvia was fully committed to any and everything the Lord put her hands to do which included being a wife, mother, daughter, grandmother and employee. If you ever visited either Humphries Memorial or Nassau General, lived in her neighborhood, shopped at Wal-Mart (her favorite place to shop) or Winn Dixie, you were sure to have encountered Mrs. Sylvia Horry. Sylvia loved God and God’s people. Sylvia said on many occasions had she not become an Operating Room Technician, she would have pursued a career as a Social Worker to help those in need. Sylvia always had an encouraging word of wisdom no matter what the situation or circumstance. She had a beautiful smile that said everything was going to be alright. She was a wise, discerning, soft-spoken, honorable woman that many looked to for advice and comfort. She was a faithful, loving, forgiving and caring person. Mrs. Sylvia you will be missed!! Sylvia departed this life on November 8, 2019 and was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Reynard Horry, parents Edward and Luella Williams, her sister Johnnie Mae Porter and a special cousin Johnnie B. McGrady (Jacqueline). She leaves to mourn her passing: her daughter, Theadessa Williams (Wayne); granddaughter, Arayna Hamilton; grandson, Joshua Williams; great-grandson, Khalil Gilkes; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Lilian Gauthier (Henry), Vinnice Stewart (Henry), Carlese Bleige (Theo); nieces, Elizabeth Green, Jutoy Porter, and Anita Richo (Craig); nephews, Victor Gauthier, Henry Gauthier Jr., Darryl Porter and Virgil Russell; and a host of other relatives and special friends. The funeral service for Sylvia Horry will be held 11AM Saturday, November 16th, 2019 at the First Assembly of God 302 South 14th Street Fernandina Beach, Florida. The visitation will be 5 - 7PM, Friday, November 15th, 2019 at the Harvest Outreach Ministries 905 Broome St Fernandina Beach, Florida. Interment in Bosque Bello Cemetery.
