Billy Ray Flick Oak Ridge, Tennessee Obituary

Billy Ray Flick

Billy Ray Flick, 83, of Oak Ridge, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2019 at the Methodist Medical Center. He was born March 23, 1936 in Bristol, TN, the son of Robert King Flick and Ona Elizabeth Solomon Flick. His family moved to Oak Ridge in 1944 and he graduated from Oak Ridge High School. Upon graduation from high school, he entered the US Army and served from December 3, 1958 to November 17, 1960. After returning to Oak Ridge from the military he worked at the A & P Grocery Store in Oak Ridge and later became manager of the Ingles Grocery Store in Clinton. Not one to relax, he later started driving buses for the Oak Ridge City Schools; a job that he dearly loved, especially driving the football team to their games. In earlier years, Mr. Flick worked with horses and he loved seeing his granddaughter riding her horse. He loved spending time and participating in family activities. He was always looking to meet new people and never met a stranger. He loved everyone and in return everyone seemed to loved him as well. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Wilma Flick in 2015; sisters, Betty Flick Brown and Dorothy F. Mann; and brothers Marvin Flick, Robert L. Flick and Fred Flick. He is survived by son, Michael Flick and wife Janie; daughter, Cristie Flick Alexander and husband Weston; 2 grandchildren, Madison Alexander and Michael Alexander; sister Susan Flick Palmer; sisters-in-law Josephine Fields, Carolyn Justice and partner David Jones and Betty Fay Flick; brothers-in-law, David Mathes and wife Gail and Kenneth Justice; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He is also survived by his beloved bulldog, Dozer. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 11 2019 from 5 – 7pm at Weatherford Mortuary. Family and friends will meet on Tuesday at 11am at Oak Ridge Memorial Park for a graveside service. Military honors will be presented by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard.
