Penelope “Penny” Kargas, 98, of Gettysburg, PA died Friday, April 15, 2016 at the Homeland Center in Harrisburg, PA. Born May 24, 1917 in Erie, PA she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Grace (Wallach) Askounes. She was the wife of the late Paul P. Kargas who died in 1983. Mrs. Kargas was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Gettysburg, PA. She was associated with the Gettysburg National Bank for 36 years and worked for another 11 years for the Gettysburg Hospital before her retirement. She is survived by her two daughters, Paula K. Shoop, of Harrisburg, PA, Diane K. Salerno, of New Cumberland, PA, three grandchildren, Robert P. Hoch, of Brooklyn, NY, Robin M. Jeena and her husband Riaz, of Harrisburg, PA, Keri L Salerno and her husband Ronald Thomas Derenzo, of Philadelphia, PA, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Nicholas A. Kargas, and her tow son-in-laws, Edwin E. Shoop and Larry F. Salerno. A memorial service for Penny will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, April 29, 2016 at St. James Lutheran Church, 109 York St., Gettysburg with Rev. Andrew Geib officiating.
