Linda Sue Hunt Comeaux Lewisburg, West Virginia Obituary

Linda Sue Hunt Comeaux

Linda Sue Hunt Comeaux, 11/28/1942 Linda Comeaux is a lover of nature, a fighter for social justice, and, of late, a beloved grandmother. Graduating from Marion Harding (Ohio) High School, marriage became an early priority and she bore and raised two children, adopting a third. Later she remarried to Zachary Comeaux, creating a forest homestead in Southern Ohio, her “energy farm”. From there she directing an alternative school for delinquents in addition to teaching adult basic education. As she and her husband continued their education at Ohio University, together they opened a rural medical practice and social work practice in Laurelville, Ohio. Here she was also critical in forming a continuously viable, faith based, food pantry and clothing distribution project. Additionally, she cofounded the Vinton County Wild Turkey Festival and the Rural Ohio Appalachia Revisited, a show-festival of native crafts. Linda was a traditional basket maker. She was an ardent participant and chapter president of the local Audubon chapter and regular in the Christmas Bird Count, also writing a nature column for the Athens Messenger. On moving to West Virginia in 2001 Linda supported various social causes while developing her artistic side with the Greenbrier Artists, where one of her watercolor compositions was featured as the cover of the annular calendar. She participated in the women’s work of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, and experimented with pottery, and her quilting made many cherished family heirlooms. Also important was her support of her husband’s teaching and medical practice. Linda passed on November 4th, 2019; she would be 77 years old later this month. She is survived by her children, Susan and Daniel; grandchildren, Collin, Claire, Lucia, Faith, Stella, and Jacob; and her husband, Zach. Her remains will be interred on their forest farm in Ohio. A memorial service will be held at the WVSOM Alumni Center in Lewisburg, WV, on a Friday, December 6, 2019, at 10:30 AM.
