Florence Darlene Trease Obituary

Florence Trease, 83, of Grinnell and formerly of Montezuma, died on November 4, 2019, at the Grinnell Health Care Center. A prayer service has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 7th, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. John Epperson, Grinnell Regional Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Pallbearers will be Jacob and Justin Rossman. Burial will be in Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Smith Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be designated to the Florence Trease Memorial Fund. Florence was born on November 8, 1935, at her family home in rural Jasper County, the daughter of Harlan C. and Alida Grace Wilson Trease. She lived with her parents for many years before moving to the Jasper County Care Facility in 1977, following the death of her father. In 1985, she moved to Grinnell to live with her brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Mary Trease. She later moved to the Poweshiek County Care Facility and then to the Diamond Life Health Care in Montezuma. Most recently, she was a resident of the Grinnell Healthcare Center. Florence was an eternal child with a loving disposition. She was always kind, always nice, and loved to have fun. She was a wonderful aunt to her nieces and a happy playmate with them while they were growing up. She loved playing with dolls, riding her three wheel bike, and watching westerns; she was a big fan of Gunsmoke! She enjoyed her time at Progress Industries and looked forward to her day trips with her friends. Survivors include her sister, Hilda McCumber of Newton; her sister-in-law, Mary Trease of Ankeny; and three nieces, Deb Spooner of Polk City, Rhonda Rossman of Riverside and Angie Gross of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister and her husband, Doris and Stan Detjen; her brother, Elmer Trease; her brother-in-law, Norman McCumber; and her niece Twyla Stern.
