Wilma M. (Halt) Lockman Obituary

Wilma M. (Halt) Lockman, 93, of Cory, Indiana and formerly of South Bend, Indiana earned her wings on November 4, 2019 to join her husband Norris Lockman, parents Floyd and Lola Moyne (Rogers) Halt, sisters Lorene (Elsworth) Schaffer and Norma (Jack) Dayhuff. The lifetime of memories are left to share by her daughter Darla (Otis) Wilson of Mishawaka, Ind, her son David Lockman of Cory, Ind., grandson Austin Lockman of South Bend, Ind, sister Erma (Bob) Clifton of Cory, Ind, along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and countless friends. Wilma graduated from Cory High School and went on to business trade school before joining Quaker Maid in the payroll department. After moving to South Bend with her husband, she worked for Federal Milk Market. After her family was started, she worked many part time jobs associated with accounting; either payroll, accounts receivable, or cost accounting with Uniroyal before retiring. During her years in South Bend she served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader for several years. Wilma was a member of the South Bend 1st Church of the Nazarene for 34 years and was active by singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School to elementary children or serving as the youth director. After she and Norris moved to Cory, Wilma continued her love for serving and did so again by singing in the choir or teaching Sunday School. She always had a “special love for the children” and would tell anyone that would listen as the children grew that “they were her Sunday School kids”. Anyone that knew or had the privilege to encounter Wilma discovered another talent in her oral communication, appearing to not know a stranger. Her other talent was to draw others into her life in such a way that she made lasting friendships for decades, creating memories that only they could share. She also would “adopt” some of those friends into her heart and they became an extension of her family. The last few years, she always looked forward to the Cory Apple Festival, sitting on her deck and inviting old and new friends alike for a visit on the porch; giving each person “the special warm feeling” that only she could give. A special Thank You to Miss. Bonnie, Miss Jane, Dr. Mark and Southern Care Hospice for the love and care you gave during the journey. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southern Care Hospice 4624 S Springhill Jct St, Terre Haute, IN 47802 in Wilma’s name. Visitation will be on Friday, November 8, 2019 from 4pm – 7pm at the Cory Community Church of the Nazarene. Services will be at the church, on November 9, 2019 at 1:00pm with Pastor Rick Parsons officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, in Riley, Indiana. French Funeral Home, in Brazil, has been entrusted with her care. Visit www.frenchfuneralhome.com to light a candle in her memory.
