John D. Guzzetta

MADISON/MONTELLO—John D. Guzzetta, age 83, died on Saturday, April 16, 2016, following a tragic accident while working at his home. He was born on Oct. 20, 1932, the son of Dominic and Rosalia "Sara" (Quartuccio) Guzzetta. John graduated from Central High School in 1951. In December of 1952 he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he was a cook and Mess Sergeant and honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1954. John was united in marriage to Jean Kelleher on Oct. 29, 1958. Together they had four children, John M., Jill T., Jan E., and James D. John worked for Oscar Mayer for over 40 years. He began as a mechanic and finished his last 18 years as a supervisor in the mechanical department. While there, he remodeled much of Oscar Mayer and built several of their small brick and cement buildings. He retired in January of 1992. John loved to build and fix things and could fix almost anything. He built most of their cottage on White Lake in Montello. His greatest joy was spending time with the love of his life and his children and grandchildren. John is survived by his wife, Jean; children, John (Wendy) Guzzetta, Jill Guzzetta, and Jan (Craig) Anderson; grandchildren, John "Jed" (Amy O'Brien) Guzzetta and Dominic (Jennifer) Guzzetta; Marie (Matt) Brown, Tommy, and Monica Anderson; great-grandchildren, Mallory Guzzetta and Ovidia Brown; brother, Peter (Nancy) Guzzetta; sisters, Mariea Harrington and Donna Rohde; sister-in-law, Pat Kelly; and is further survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James "Jimmy" Guzzetta; brother, George Guzzetta; brothers-in-law, John Rohde, Ron Harrington and Bob Kelly; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Guzzetta. To say we loved him is an understatement, and to say he loved us is an even bigger one. We love you, Nonie, and you will be greatly missed by all. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Rd., Madison, at 12 Noon on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, with Fr. Randy Timmerman presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Wednesday.
