Ronald C. Tolley
Ronald C. Tolley, age 88 years, died Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township, NJ. Born April 4, 1928, in Honesdale, PA, Ronald was the son of the late Charles and Mildred (Bates) Tolley, and he lived in the Hunterdon County area most of his life. He graduated from Honesdale High School in 1946. Immediately after high school, he served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Transport Command stationed in Japan, until being honorably discharged on April 13, 1948. He then graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in June, 1952, and then on to Rutgers University for his Master of Arts Degree in October of 1959. Ronald taught at the former Flemington High School and continued to Hunterdon Central Regional High School when it opened in 1956. He taught History, Political Science, Contemporary World Problems, and his favorite subject, Geography, for 38 years. Ronald was best known for his great storytelling whether it was in the classroom, at the Clinton House where he bartended, or during social events. He was a natural storyteller and his students were often entertained by the famous “white cat” story as well as many others. Predeceased by his parents and his sister, Marilyn Ellsworth, Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Frances Muehlbauer Tolley, his daughters, Donna Mayersky of Flemington, and Janet Fasano of Whitehouse Station, his son Ronald Tolley of Flemington, his grandsons, Michael and Thomas Fasano, and his sister, Janet Spaulding of Easton, PA. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, officiated by the Rev. David Errickson. Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery in Quakertown, NJ. Calling hours will be on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. I am so sorry for your loss. While I never met Ron, I worked several years with Fran at South Hunterdon and remember her stories of him. He always sounded like a really special person and I would have liked to have met him.

I first knew Mr. Tolley as my father's friend. Later he was my teacher and then my colleague. I will always remember his calm demeanor, his pipe and his stories about White Cat.
