Ann Barsi Mountain View, California Obituary

Ann Barsi

Ann Barsi Ann Marie Barsi passed away peacefully with her family by her side on October 28, 2019, at the age of 91. Ann was born in San Francisco on October 9, 1928, to Giovanni and Marie Denevi. She grew up in the City, and together with her brother Willie and her cousins, had many exciting adventures including journeys on the street car to the beach, Playland and the movies every Saturday. She was an original member of the Village Girls from the North Beach neighborhood and never missed one of their dances or activities. She attended Girls’ High and worked part time at J.C. Penny’s and later for NASA at Moffett Field. Wherever she went, Ann made wonderful, lifelong friends. During a visit to see her cousin Bernice shortly after the War ended, she was introduced to Norman Barsi who had just been discharged from the Navy. After dating for several months, they were married on February 1, 1948. It was a love story that would span more than seventy years. They moved to Los Altos in 1950, where they raised their two sons. She was an incredible homemaker for her family and she always loved welcoming family and friends to her house for gatherings. She was an active member of Saint Nicholas Church and one of the founding parents and a frequent volunteer at Saint Nicholas School. She was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation and the Peninsula Club and served several terms on the board of both clubs. Ann enjoyed watching both of her sons compete in athletics and never missed an event. And she was an even bigger fan of her grandsons, following them to various destinations to watch them play. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, and Sunday night poker with her friends, but her favorite activity by far was dancing. If there was a dance floor and music, no matter what kind, she would be the first person out there and the last to leave. Norm and she traveled the world together visiting almost every continent and making new friends wherever they went. Her happiest times were always with family and friends, particularly during the annual trip to Camp Mather and the girls’ trips to Tahoe. Ann was predeceased by her husband Norm. She is survived by her sons Bruce (Suzanne) and Donald, her grandsons Christopher (Ashley) and Jonathan (Liana), her great grandsons Carter and Lucas, and her niece Christine (Leann). Ann was a wonderful person, a dedicated wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a loyal friend to many. She will be dearly missed. A Funeral Mass and Celebration of Ann’s Life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 7th, at Villa Siena, 1855 Miramonte Avenue, in Mountain View. In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable donation to Villa Siena at www.villa-siena.org.
