Maxine Rutledge

Maxine Rutledge, Affectionately known as “Mackie,” passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2019, at her home. Born in Statesville, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Cleveland and Lillie Taylor Rutledge. Mackie was a member of Belmont Church of Christ now Highland Acres Church of Christ at a young age. She served the church faithfully as a Bible Class Teacher and taught individuals in her home. As a result many became faithful members of the Lord’s Church. Mackie was known as an encourager of her brothers and sisters in Christ and those in the community. She kept the church informed on individuals who where ill and of families who had lost a loved one. An honor roll student, Mackie was a graduate of Unity High School, Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC and Russell Business College in Winston-Salem. She spent her career as a Professional Secretary with the Iredell County Agricultural Extension Service, now known as N.C. Cooperative Extension. Mackie served as an officer in her district and state professional associations and received several awards for her work. She retired from Extension after 38 years of service. Mackie also volunteered for several community organizations, including the American Cancer Society. Mackie leaves to cherish her fond memories her loving niece and caregiver Y. Bridget Sharpe of the home, nieces, Veronica Knight and Jacqueline Sharpe, both of Baltimore, MD., nephews, Elton Sharpe of Baltimore, MD, Vernon Sharpe of Brooklyn, NY, Rick (Rupearl) Sharpe of Sharpsburg, GA., a host of cousins, other relatives, church members and friends.
