James Ray Daniel, Jr.

James Ray Daniel Jr., 57, of Lubbock, died Monday, March 14, 2016. Funeral service will be at 4:00 PM Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Myers & Smith Chapel with Doug Shelley, pastor of East Side Baptist Church. Burial with military honors will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. He was born February 7, 1959 to Lena Mae (Jones) Daniel and James Ray Daniel, Sr. in Lubbock, Texas. Notable Events with his Military Career included: Letter of Commendation as an Honor Graduate in the Airborne course, placing 2nd of 200. He continued to be selected as a Distinguished Trooper of the 82nd Airborne Division and was a member of the Falcon Brigade as a Tactical Wire Specialist. After his service, he had various jobs, one of which was Lubbock Utilities. He made his own path in life and could make friends wherever he went. Many of those friendships spanned over his lifetime. He was a true Texan at heart, and always found his way back home. He created lasting memories for his family, friends, and four children. He was an outlaw, he was rough around the edges, and worn, but over anything else, he was the same James inside his heart that everyone loved and adored. He was also a dog lover. He is survived by his son Michael Ray Daniel, II and wife Shawna of Lubbock, his daughters: Sara Daniel also of Lubbock, Rachel Guillory and husband Joseph of Houston, Gwendolyn Ellis of Snohomish, WA; a sister Diana Boyer and husband Joe of Loan Oak, a brother: Clayton Daniel of Lubbock and his father James Ray, Sr. and wife Mary of Lubbock; six grandchildren; 2 nephews, 3 nieces, 4 great nieces and 1 great nephew and his dog Onyx. He was preceded in death by his mother Lena Daniel, one brother and his paternal and maternal grandparents. Pallbearers are: Michael Daniel, Michael Ray Daniel, Joe Guillory, Brian Adkins, Barry Fry and Randy Jarnagin. Arrangements are by Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
